Adopting a homeless animal can be one of the most rewarding feelings. You are giving an animal a second chance at a wonderful life. Many of our Bassets have come to us through shelters, where they have been turned in by their owners, no longer wanted or loved, or were picked up as a stray, again, with no one loving them.

The first step in adopting is to fill out an adoption application. Please contact TAMMY to have an application emailed to you. Once you have filled it out, please email it to adoptions@lonestarbassethound.com

Once your application has been received, we will beging the approval process and someone will be in touch with you within 72 hours.

Adoption Fees:

Dogs under 1 year of age $250.

Dogs 1-8 years of age are $200.

Dogs over 8 are $100.

Bonded pairs are $300.

We bassets are well-known for our mild temperament, and we are notoriously good around children. But we're still dogs, and some of us just don't get along with very small kids that might tug at us, or pull our ears, or put their face up close to ours... especially when we've just been placed into a strange, new environment.  Heck, some of our rescue bassets have been bounced around between so many shelters, homes, vets, and kennels that they're gonna need a little space and adjustment time before you let the kids go whole hog with us. Our rescue volunteers do as best as they can to evaluate each rescue basset's temperament. But we ask if you have very small children... before you adopt any dog of any breed, be prepared to not only train the dog, but to also train your children on how to handle us! Also be prepared to supervise us at all times when we're together, especially in the first few months when we're trying to settle into our forever home. Thank you-arooooooooo!!!!!

HOUNDS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

PLEASE JOIN LSBHR IN WELCOMING DONNA'S ELEVEN NEW BABIES TO THE WORLD! THEY WERE BORN WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2007. THEY APPEAR TO BE PURE BASSETS, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT DONNA WAS TURNED IN WITH HER MALE COMPANION 'DIEGO'. WE HAVE A VARIETY OF COLORS AND MALES AND FEMALES!! WE WILL BE ADOPTING THE PUPPIES OUT TO THEIR NEW HOMES ONCE THEY TURN EIGHT WEEKS. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING A PUPPY, PLEASE CONTACT US TO START THE ADOPTION PROCESS. ONCE THE PUPPIES ARE SIX WEEKS OF AGE, DONNA WILL BE SPAYED AND READY FOR ADOPTION.

DONNA - Donna is a 2-3 yr old red and white female. She is a sweet girl who loves life and everyone and everything she meets. She just had a litter of puppies (08/15/07) and will need to be spayed once they are weaned. She gets along well with other dogs, and knows how to use a doggy door.

DIEGO - Diego is a 2-3 yr old black tri-colored male. We are guessing that he is the sire (father) to the litter that Donna just whelped. Diego is a very sweet boy, who is a real cuddlebug. He loves to get on the bed or couch with you and cuddle for hours. He is crate-trained and familiar with a doggy door as well. He appears to have a nice laid back attitude, and gets along well with dogs and with cats. He will make a wonderful companion for any home.

SADIE - Sadie a 5-6 yr old tri-colored female. She is a very sweet and loving, and gets along well with anyone. She also seems to adjust to new situations quickly. We have a feeling that there may be a Beagle in the woodwork of her heritage background.

BERKLEY - Berkley is a 10 yr old male who had to be turned into LSBHR becuase his owner is moving over seas and the trip would be too difficult for a senior dog. He is in wonderful condition, very loving and very well mannered. Berkley is looking for a home that will allow him to live out his "Golden Years". Is that special home with you???
